The Wimbledon Management are awaiting written confirmation from the Speedway Control Bureau before formulating the terms of their appeal.

Wimbledon Speedway PLC Chairman Ian Perkin issued the following comment, "I was staggered to read in the morning newspapers that Wimbledon riders have received suspended match bans following the incidents against Boston."

"I have spoken to our legal advisors and we will be making an appeal to the Speedway Control Bureau against the bans given to Marc Norris and James Clement."

"James Clement in particular acted with great maturity to avoid any confrontation with the Boston riders and has been harshly treated."

With their Lincolnshire rivals due in town in a fortnight's time for the Knockout Cup semi-final, Perkin appealed to both teams for a firm but fair battle to reach the prestigious Cup Final.

"With a Cup Final place at stake, we are expecting a white-hot atmosphere at Plough Lane on 1st September but fevently hope that the recent events do not detract from what should be a gripping contest between two good sides".
