Wagstaff plans gala farewell.

Oxford Silver Machine promoter Nigel Wagstaff has announced that he is planning a Gala Night for what could be the final ever Elite League meeting to be staged at Oxford. Next Friday, September 10th, 2004 see the Ipswich Witches visit Sandy lane in what may well be the last Elite League meeting to be staged the famous venue.

Oxford Speedway has been running for fifty six consecutive seasons, however, it is currently under threat as the stadium owners, the GRA, have decided that after twenty one years of Friday racing they are able to stop it and have informed the Speedway promotion that they must change night. Nigel Wagstaff is clear that there is not an acceptable alternative race night and that if the decision is not changed, there is a distinct possibility that speedway could be lost to the University City for good.

To mark what could be a most emotional night, Nigel Wagstaff will repeat his Gala evening that was held successfully at the end of last season where he will be inviting his sponsors to join him in the restaurant to mark the event.

Tables of ten will cost ?500 but in a unique move, he has invited Pete Seaton and Glynn Shailes to invite all of the former riders who recently joined Oxford for the fifty five years celebration to attend again. Those who book a table will then have the pick of which former great joins them for the evening.
