A fan video has emerged confirming speculation that the #17 SMP Racing BR Engineering BR1 car suffered a high-speed flip at Eau Rouge during last Saturday's FIA World Endurance Championship round at Spa-Francorchamps.

The #17 SMP Racing entry retired with just over one hour to go in the race at Spa after Matevos Isaakyan's car was shown to be in the barriers at the top of Eau Rouge, with the driver walking away from the car unassisted and seemingly unharmed.

A photo emerged showing the rear of an LMP1 car high in the air following speculation the car had flipped at Eau Rouge, only for a fan video to show the true extent of the incident after it was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday.

The video shows the nose of the BR1 LMP1 car beginning to rise through the crest of Eau Rouge before the car flips at least once, eventually coming to rest in the barriers at the exit of the corner.

The crash came just 24 hours after DragonSpeed's Pietro Fittipaldi - also driving a BR1 chassis - slammed into the wall at Raidillon at high speed following a supposed electrical glitch on his car, leaving the Brazilian with two broken legs.

BR Engineering has confirmed it is undertaking a full investigation into the issues, with the next planned race appearance for the BR1 chassis coming at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in six weeks' time.

2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button is due to be racing for SMP in its #11 BR1 car at Le Mans and for the remainder of the WEC super season.
