Mannisenmaki to undergo surgery on Monday.

Tommi Makinen's co-driver Risto Mannisenmaki is to undergo surgery on Monday to correct a back injury inflicted yesterday when the Mitsubishi crashed in SS5.

The team have released the following statement:

Tommi Makinen's co-driver Risto Mannisenmaki is to undergo surgery on Monday to correct a back injury inflicted yesterday when the Mitsubishi crashed in SS5.

The team have released the following statement:

"Following a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan at hospital in Marseille, Risto Mannisenmaki will be undergoing surgery to correct a back injury at 08:00 hrs on Monday 22 October. Risto is in a comfortable condition and good spirits, and is expected to make a full recovery following the operation."

"The Marlboro Mitsubishi Ralliart team doctor, Paul Trafford, will be in attendance at the operation and will oversee Risto's immediate aftercare, before he is repatriated to Finland."

"Risto will spend the remainder of the weekend resting before the operation, and his family will be joining him later today (Saturday). There will be a further update on Risto's condition on Tuesday 23 October at 09:00 hrs GMT."
