Grist finds seat for Network Q.

Nicky Grist will be involved in the final round of the World Rally Championship despite his split from long-time rally partner Colin McRae - even if it is only to act as expert for local television.

The Welsh co-driver parted company with McRae prior to Rally Australia, with both parties admitting that they had endured a tempestuous relationship in the final few months of sharing their Ford focus WRC, but Grist will be back in Britain, and able to pass judgement on his former team-mate's performance without fear of recrimination.

The Abergavenny-born star revealed that he has been inundated with chances to be part of the television coverage of the final event of 2002, and warmed-up with a pundit spot in the USA at the past weekend's Australian round.

"At present there are no co-driver jobs on offer to me, but I have had a lot of offers to do television work," Grist confirmed to the local South Wales Echo newspaper, "In the short term, I will be working with HTV Wales and involved in their coverage of the Network Q Rally of Great Britain, but there is also the possibility of working with [British rally broadcaster] Channel Four as well.

"Aside from that, I will be working for Speed TV in the US to help with coverage of Rally Australia so, all in all, I'll be kept pretty busy, albeit not in my usual line of work."

Grist re-iterated the fact that he was no intending to quit his co-driver's role, and is still looking for competitive employment for next season. McRae was co-driven by former partner Derek Ringer in Australia, as he will be in Britain in two weeks' time.
