IRC: Meeke excluded from Rally Scotland

Newly crowned Intercontinental Rally Challenge title winner Kris Meeke has been excluded from the results of the season-ending Rally of Scotland.

Meeke had taken victory in the event at the wheel of his Peugeot UK entered Peugeot 207 S2000 after an event-long battle with the Skoda of Guy Wilks, but post-event checks raised question marks over the legality of the front subframe on the car.

The suspect part has now undergone a series of further checks which have revealed that it was below the minimum weight required, with the decision taken to exclude Meeke as a result.

The Kronos-run team will not appeal the decision, which has no bearing on the IRC title race with Meeke having been crowned champion prior to the season finale.

"After due deliberation, the stewards noted that Peugeot UK and Peugeot Sport admitted a lack of control in the manufacture of this subframe," a statement read. "The stewards also recognised that there was no fraudulent intent on the part of the entrant or manufacturer.

"The stewards decide to exclude competitor #1 from the event in accordance with article 158 of the 2009 FIA International Sporting Code owing to non-conformity with the relevant FIA homologation paper."
