Fresh from victory in Argentina last month, Ott Tanak has started at the front at Rally de Portugal with victory on the opening stage.

Toyota’s Tanak, who jumped up to third in the World Rally Championship standings with victory in Argentina, heads up a packed field with a slender 0.4s advantage over M-Sport Ford pair Teemu Suninen and Sebastien Ogier who set identical times on SS1.

Ogier, who lost his appeal to retain his Power Stages points from Argentina after hitting a chicane, has been classified in third behind teammate Suninen with Citroen’s Kris Meeke in fourth place.

A trio of Hyundais follows with Andreas Mikkelsen leadings teammates Thierry Neuville, now 10 points back in the standings after Ogier’s penalty was upheld, and Dani Sordo.

Elfyn Evans holds eighth place for M-Sport Ford as of Mads Ostberg as Esapekka Lappi rounds out the top 10 for Toyota ahead of Hayden Paddon (Hyundai), Craig Breen (Citroen) and Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota).
