‘I know I have a strong bike’ says Gerloff, finishes Aragon test third fastest

Garrett Gerloff was one of the major surprises in WorldSBK last season, but after an impressive rookie campaign and 2021 pre-season to date, the American’s continued progression comes as anything but a surprise heading in his second season.

The GRT Yamaha rider produced three podiums in the final seven races of 2020, including a second and third in Estoril.

Through testing so far, Gerloff has been a consistent top five performer which includes outings at Misano, Barcelona and the latest in Aragon.

The two days of action at Barcelona was the lone Official World Superbike test of the pre-season, as Gerloff finished third behind only Scott Redding and six-time world champion Jonathan Rea.

And it was another impressive showing during the recent two-day test at MotorLand Aragon, as Gerloff was once again third fastest overall behind Aruba.it Ducati riders Redding and Michael Ruben-Rinaldi.

It was a slow start to the test itself on Monday, with cold and windy conditions affecting the morning running. But as the weather gradually improved, lap times became considerably quicker which saw Gerloff move up from fifth to third on the final day.

Speaking after the test, Gerloff said: "I am so happy with the amount of information that we now have.

"We have sorted out a lot of things which allowed us to improve with different temperatures and wind conditions.

"The wind affects the feeling you have around the whole track, because it completely changes the braking points, as well as how fast the bike can turn into the corners, making some of them feel horrible because you cannot turn at all.

"That’s why the experience of these two days is so valuable. I know I have a strong bike and I’m happy with how we are working as a team."
