Andrea Locatelli has completed the perfect World Superport debut with a dominant victory at Phillip Island, as defending champion Randy Krummenacher crashes out at the first corner.

Locatelli became the seventh rider in history to win on his World Supersport bow and the Italian rider never looked troubled after keeping the lead from pole position while seeing nearest rival Krummenacher crash out after a poor start.

Even the mandatory pit stop enforced into the World Supersport race at Phillip Island, used as a tyre safety precaution, was executed without any fuss as he retained a healthy four-second lead over his rivals after pitting.

The Bardahl Evan Bros Yamaha rider duly converted his pace into victory by over five seconds with Raffele De Rosa in second place for MV Agusta with his team-mate Krummenacher out of action.

Jules Cluzel saw off fellow French rider Lucas Mahias to take the final podium spot for GMT94 Yamaha, with his team-mate Corentin Perolari slotting into fifth place behind Mahias.

Hannes Soomer impressed on his Yamaha debut in the series on his way to sixth place for Kallio Racing.

Another World Supersport debutant from Moto2 Steven Odendaal took seventh place for Ten Kate Yamaha ahead of last year’s World Supersport 300 champion Manuel Gonzalez.

Filippo Fuligni held on to ninth place for MV Agusta with Isaac Vinales rounding out the top 10 after picking up a time penalty during his pit stop.

Can Oncu narrowly missed out in 11th place for Turkish Racing Kawasaki with sole British rider Danny Webb in the points with 12th place for WRP Wepol Racing Yamaha.
