British Supersport race winner James Westmoreland has moved a step closer to joining the Superbike ranks in 2011 after completing a three-day test for Motorpoint Yamaha in Spain.

The 22-year-old finished second to Sam Lowes in the British Supersport Championship this season, but while his rival will remain in Supersports on the world stage next season, Westmoreland stepped out with Rob McElnea's Motorpoint Yamaha Superbike team during a test at Cartagena.

His first experience on the Yamaha R1, Westmoreland completed three days of testing alongside the recently-confirmed Loris Baz and was pleased with the results.

"It was a mega three days testing with the team at Cartagena and the bike felt really good,"?he said. "It was only a test at this stage but we worked well together and despite having so little time on a Superbike I got into a good rhythm and was able to set some promising lap times."
