British Superbike Championship leader Steve Hislop has been taken to hospital following a crash with title rival John Reynolds at Rockingham Motor Speedway.

Fears that the new oval facility could be the scene of an accident given the high-speed nature of parts of its road course came to life when Hislop, riding the MonsterMob Ducati collided with the similarly-mounted Reynolds as they battled for control of the day's opening BSB race.

The race was stopped while the Scot, who broke his neck at the Brands Hatch WSBK round last year, was careful placed in a waiting ambulance, before being ferried to a local hospital.

Initial reports suggest that he has a broken collarbone and another compound fracture.
