British Superbike team, T.D.B. Recruit.com recently returned from Valencia, Spain where they completed their three-day test program and riders Paul Young and Jon Kirkham were delighted with the results they achieved aboard their Colin Appleyard run Yamaha R1s.

The Australian rider Young was very encouraged with the test and was delighted to clock up some valuable race miles.

He commented: "We have made excellent progress. Obviously it was my aim to gain a good understanding of how the bike reacted to various set-ups. The engine is really strong and I found it very easy to use the power. I also got very good feedback from the tyres and chassis and now have a good reference point to work from. Testing is always invaluable but the real test will be the first race of the season and like everyone in the team I can't wait."

His young team-mate Kirkham was equally upbeat and glad to test in such favourable conditions. "That was fantastic. Over the three days my lap times tumbled far more than I expected and to be able to test in such warm weather is always a bonus. Throughout the three-day program I became more and more comfortable on the bike and being able to compare every detail of my laps with the telemetry from Paul and Steve [Hislop] was priceless."

Kirkham, last year's youngest ever British Superbike rider at just 17 years of age, continued: "I've still loads to learn and have my feet firmly on the ground but with excellent bikes like the R1 and such a professional team I'm confident I can keep on learning and put in some good results this season."

Team owner Colin Appleyard was equally delighted with the overall performance of his team and commented: "I've been involved with racing for over 40 years but before the start of every season I still get a great buzz and this year is no exception.

"We've got a really strong rider line-up, fantastic bikes, great partners and a strong championship, all of which bodes well for the coming year. I have no doubt we will achieve our goals and hopefully surprise a few people along the way."

T.D.B. Recruit.com will complete their 2003 test programme at Donington Park on Sunday 23rd March. The opening round of the British Superbike Championship will be at Silverstone on Sunday March 30th.
