Josh Brookes has powered his way to the top of the FP2 timesheet in a session curtailed by earlier rain which prevented dry weather running until the final few minutes.

The McAMS Yamaha rider had been trailing this morning’s fastest rider Glenn Irwin on the Be Wiser Ducati for large parts of the session in wet conditions, following an early afternoon shower, but with high temperatures helping to dry out Brands Hatch a number of riders were able to head out on slick tyres for the closing five minutes.

The late time attack shook up the order with Brookes notching in a 1m 36.324s to take top spot – almost three seconds faster than nearest rival Jake Dixon on the RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki – but the 2015 Bennetts British Superbike champion’s best time was still over 10 seconds off the pace produced in FP1.

With Dixon taking second place, Irwin had to settle for third place fractionally ahead of Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s James Ellison while Team WD-40 Kawasaki’s Mason Law impressed in tricky conditions to jump up to fifth late on.

Dan Linfoot secured sixth place for Honda ahead of OMG Racing Suzuki’s Gino Rea and Be Wiser Ducati’s Andrew Irwin, continuing to fill in for the injured Shane Byrne, with Luke Hedger (Lloyd & Jones BMW) and Christian Iddon (Tyco BMW) rounding out the top 10.

Dean Harrison on the Silicone Engineering Racing Kawasaki and Shaun Winfield on the Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha were the only other two riders to set lap times in FP2’s mixed conditions with the majority of riders opting to not to test the circuit with hot and sunny weather forecast for the remainder of the Brands Hatch race weekend.
