Leon Haslam has secured an untouchable hat-trick at Silverstone while Peter Hickman clung on to the final Bennetts British Superbike Showdown spot despite failing to score points in the final race with a technical issue.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider fended off rookie Tarran Mackenzie in a final-lap fight for victory to seal his triple at Silverstone, with the series switching to the National circuit for the first time, while attention was split to the battle for the final Showdown spot.

Three different riders provisionally held the final top six place during the last Silverstone race – Jason O’Halloran, Christian Iddon and Hickman – before the Smiths Racing BMW rider secured the last Showdown spot with his rivals failing to overhaul his points tally.

Hickman suffered with multiple technical issues with his Smiths Racing BMW bike and ended the race down in 19th place but all his top six rivals were unable to overhaul the points difference.

Danny Buchan on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki went closest but his 12th place finish saw him miss out by four points, with Iddon’s 10th place seeing him a point back and O’Halloran’s fifth place putting him one point further behind.

With Haslam claiming a 12th win of the season he holds a 45-point lead at the start of the BSB Showdown ahead of Jake Dixon who claimed the final podium spot in race three.

Fellow BSB Showdown rider Glenn Irwin claimed fourth place in the final race at Silverstone ahead of O'Halloran with 2015 champion Josh Brookes in fifth.

The initial race had to be red-flagged following a nasty crash by Luke Mossey on lap two but the JG Speedfit Kawasaski rider was seen walking into the ambulance unaided following his off. The race was restarted as new with a reduced distance of 26 laps.
