Simpson splits with Eurotech Racing

Eurotech Racing has parted company with Matt Simpson and dropped the running of the Simpson Racing Honda Civic Type R with immediate effect following the Rockingham round.

Simpson joined the Eurotech Racing outfit at the start of 2018 in the British Touring Car Championship and initially impressed with a run of top ten finishes, with the highlight of pole position and victory in the opening Oulton Park race, and even though he endured a run of difficult results the Brit returned to the podium in race three at Rockingham.

Despite the return to form, Simpson notified Eurotech Racing he would be running the car independently at the end of the race weekend at Rockingham for the remainder of the 2018 BTCC campaign, leaving team principal Jeff Smith ‘shocked’.

“Having helped Matt to his best ever season in BTCC we were completely shocked to be told that he no longer wanted to run with us, especially immediately after the podium in race three,” Smith said.

“Whilst we are disappointed not to be running Matt for the rest of the 2018 season we wish him the best of luck in the remaining three rounds and beyond.”

WIX Racing with Eurotech will finish the 2018 campaign as a two-car outfit with Jack Goff and Brett Smith, with the Simpson Racing squad running independently for the final three rounds of the season at Knockhill, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
