Prost to revert to Mugen?

Alain Prost's beleaguered French outfit is tipped to return to its former engine supplier Mugen-Honda for 2001, as it attempts to find an alternative to Peugeot.

Prost and Mugen currently occupy opposite ends of the grid at most grands prix, and the use of the current Jordan engine is seen as a definite step up for a tem unused to battling with the likes of Minardi for the last two rows. With Jordan rumoured to be switching either to full works-spec Honda engines or an, as yet unnamed, new supplier next year, the Mugen deal would be up for grabs. Prost, as a former customer of the Japanese concern, is thought to be in pole position for the contract.

The initial Prost-Mugen tie-up was a success in comparison with recent seasons under Peugeot power, and Alain Prost is already rumoured to have broached the possibility of a new deal with Mugen representatives. It is also understood that the supply could go ahead regardless of Jordan's position, as there is a clause in the Silverstone team's agreement that allows a second supply provided the engines are of a different specification.
