Perez and Ocon had a tense relationship as teammates, but the early signs between Perez and Stroll have been positive. Both drivers have already picked up points so far this year, and Szafnauer is pleased with how their partnership has begun.

"It is a different dynamic. It’s good," Szafnauer said.

"It’s different for many reasons, but it’s very good. They share work together, try to get the best out of the car."

Stroll spent much of 2018 languishing at the back of the grid with Williams as the team struggled with an uncompetitive car, with his move up to Racing Point offering the opportunity to fight more often for points finishes.

The Canadian is only in his third F1 season, but Szafnauer has been impressed by his start to life in a new team.

"He’s good," Szafnauer said. "We can teach him some stuff. And it’s one of those things where with experience you learn.

"He’s young. He’s 20 years old. And with a couple of years he’ll only get better and better at this.

"He’s very good, very talented. Great feedback, know what he likes with the car, and he’s a good driver."
