The 2026 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix began on Friday with a 90-minute FP1, before Lando Norris and McLaren claimed sprint qualifying pole.

After a five-week break due to the war in Iran cancelling Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, F1 returns to action this weekend in Miami.

New power unit regulations prompted the FIA to extend FP1 at Miami on Friday to 90 minutes.

As it's a sprint weekend, this marks the only practice times the teams and drivers will have in Miami.

Ferrari turned heads with an extensively updated car, with Charles Leclerc leading the way in FP1 with a 1m29.310s.

He led Max Verstappen, as Red Bull debuted its 'Macarena' rear wing.

Oscar Piastri was third for McLaren, while Mercedes has started the weekend on the back foot.

A scrappy flying lap left George Russell in sixth, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli - the championship leader - couldn't set a soft tyre lap due to a power unit issue.

Aston Martin battled power unit issues at the start of the session, but managed to get both Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso out for some laps.

Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren ran each other close through sprint qualifying.

But it was Lando Norris and McLaren who took top spot, snapping Mercedes' qualifying streak in 2026.

Charles Leclerc ended up in fourth as the leading Ferrari
