Carroll and Sweeney Racing kings of Castle Combe.
Adam Carroll and Billy Asaro celebrated a Sweeney Racing 1-2 finish in the Scholarship Class in Round 14 of the British F3 Championship this afternoon.
It could almost have been a clean sweep of the podium for the team as Robert Dahlgren finished fourth in class, beaten to third by Clivio Piccione.
The start of the 20-lap race was again where most of the action happened and Carroll swept past Asaro and Karun Chandhok to move up to second in class just one car behind pole-sitter Stephen Colbert.
Asaro also moved up, following hot on the heels of his team-mate to take third in class with Dahlgren making a steady start gaining three places by the end of the opening lap.
All three drivers moved up through the field, challenging many of the Championship Class cars in the process. Carroll was up to sixth overall by lap five with Stephen Colbert in his sights. Asaro and Dahlgren held station in 10th and 13th respectively.
The Sweeney Racing trio all benefited when Stephen Colbert veered into the pits, handing the Scholarship lead to Round 13 winner Carroll, whilst promoting Billy Asaro up to second. Swedish racer Dahlgren was then left to chase Clivio Piccione for the third and final podium spot.
The second half of the race panned out with very little in the way of overtaking and all three Sweeney Racing drivers maintained their track positions from lap 12 to the chequered flag on lap 20 with Carroll sixth overall, Asaro ninth and Dahlgren 12th.
Carroll claimed his second win of the day and further laid claim to the Scholarship title with win number eight of the season.
"I'm pleased to say I made a great start and I found myself part of a pack of four or five cars running side by side into the first corner," said Carroll.
"I kept my foot down and passed the group on the outside, there then followed some mayhem at the chicane and I benefited from that as well. I was pushing to catch up with Stephen Colbert but Richard Antinucci managed to pass me. Stephen then pitted with a puncture I think and the lead was mine. My car was definitely better for this afternoon's race and I'm delighted to take another win."
For Asaro it was relief to finally finish a race and join his team-mate on the podium to spray the champagne.
Asaro noted: "The start was interesting, I was pushed onto the grass a good few times and I lost position to Adam. By the end of the lap I had made up a few places but by the middle of the race my car had peaked and I held on to second in class."
"It could have been a better weekend but at least Round 14 was better than Round 13. Brands Hatch next weekend will be interesting. I've had mixed results there but I'm hoping to repeat my win from the first round."
Dahlgren, third in this morning's race, had to settle with fourth but it was a fine drive having qualified eighth in class and 19th overall.
Dahlgren commented: "The track had changed quite a bit from this morning's race, it was quite slippery. It changed the characteristic of my car's handling but it was okay. I didn't make a great start but I re-passed a few people and I was hoping I could make it a 1-2-3 finish for the team but it wasn't to be."
"Overall I'm happy with my progress since joining Sweeney Racing, I'm a lot more confident heading into Brands Hatch next weekend."
Sweeney Racing's domination of the Scholarship Class is all the more impressive as 2002 marks the debut season for John Sweeney's team.
With all three driver claiming podium positions at today's meeting it is surely only a matter of time before the British F3 Championship witnesses a 1-2-3 finish from the team.
