Motorcycle racing legend Max Biaggi swapped two wheels for four on Friday as he sampled a Formula E car for the first time ahead of the all-electric series’ first race in his home city of Rome this weekend.

Two-time WSBK champion and former MotoGP front-runner Biaggi was welcomed to the Rome circuit to complete a show run in a Formula E showcar as part of the launch for this weekend’s race.

Biaggi retired from racing at the end of the 2012 season before making wildcard appearances in WSBK at Misano and Sepang three years later, but enjoyed the chance to get back on-track around the streets of his hometown.

“After a long time, to come back to this kind of car really makes me feel enthusiastic,” Biaggi said after driving the Season 1-spec Formula E model used for all demonstrations.

“I didn’t expect the push from the bottom, the torque, to be so much. It makes the wheels spin nice. You need to be a good driver to drive a car like that.”

Biaggi enjoys strong links with Indian manufacturer Mahindra, which fields a team in Formula E that is currently vying for championship honours.
