Fisher released from Walker Racing contract.

Walker Racing has announced that Sarah Fisher has been released from her drivers contract with Walker Racing to pursue other opportunities in racing. Fisher became the youngest person to compete in the Indy Racing League when she raced in the 1999 season finale at Texas Motor Speedway at the age of just 19.

There were some rumours in recent times that Walker Racing was possibly looking at including Fisher as part of his Champ Car operation.

"Sarah wishes to drive in the Indy Racing League, and currently, we have not raised the full season sponsorship for the Indy Racing League. Sarah had requested to be allowed to pursue other opportunities, and we have agreed to release her from her obligations to the team to allow her to do that," said team owner Derrick Walker.

"I think she has a great future ahead of her in the Indy Racing League, and we wish her the best of luck." As Walker Racing's Indy Racing League driver during the 2000 and 2001 seasons, Fisher qualified for two Indianapolis 500s, was voted the IRL's Most Popular Driver, and finished on the podium twice, including a strong 2nd place at the 2001 season opening race at the Homestead Motorsports Complex near Miami, Florida.

Walker Racing is based in Indianapolis, Indiana and was the first team to compete in the Indy Racing League and the CART FedEx Series simultaneously. Derrick Walker has won the Indianapolis 500 5 times as a team manager and has 4 CART FedEx Series victories as an owner to his credit. Walker Racing is competing in the 2002 CART FedEx Series with driver Tora Takagi.
