Cherry, who was a former Team Manager for Sigma Autosport, also confirmed that he plans to enter the CART FedEx Series in 2003 with his own team and was awaiting the go-ahead from CART.

Speaking to SKY Sports presenter Keith Huewen, Cherry also revealed that the team would run a Lola-Ford chassis/engine combination as had been widely predicted and that three British drivers were under consideration for the ride.

Former CART winner Mark Blundell and fellow British favorite Johnny Herbert have been strongly linked with the drive while other British drivers with recent open wheel oval experience include Jonny Kane and Guy Smith.
