Having been forced to sit out the opening leg of the Champ Car World Series' trip to Europe, Dan Clarke has been given the nod to return to action this weekend in the Netherlands.

The Minardi Team USA driver was banned from competing in the Grand Prix of Belgium at Zolder following an incident in the opening practice session of the weekend, when he triggered a four-car accident shortly after the start of the session.

With the Briton having already been on probation for an incident earlier in the session, doubts existed over whether or not he would be allowed to resume his drive in the second leg of the European trip, but has now been given the nod to do so race director Tony Cotman.

"I think Dan has learned a lot in the past week and he is ready to compete again," he said. "During Dan's suspension, he showed us what he's all about. He participated in fan and media activities, helped his team and also came to race control to see how we come to our decisions. I hope he is more aware now, that in racing small mistakes can lead to big consequences."

Clarke, who was replaced in Belgium by Mario Dominguez, was understandably pleased to be given the news that he will line up on the grid at Assen and said he was determined to give the team the best possible result on his racing return.

"I'm very glad to learn that I will be racing in Assen," he said. "It was strange watching on race day in Zolder, but it ended up being kind of fun, as I had the opportunity to do some other things and help out the team. I got to work the lollipop for Mario, and spend some time in Race Control with Tony Cotman.

"It was nice to get support from other people in the paddock, as well as from the fans, but I'm ready to get back in the car. I believe we can have a positive weekend and I appreciate the encouragement from the team. I will do my best to get the result that they deserve."

Clarke will remain on probation for the remainder of the 2007 season.
