When the 2013 season got underway at Qatar in April it seemed that we had a very simple question to consider: would Jorge Lorenzo successfully defend his championship, or would this finally be the year that Dani Pedrosa got his share of the title glory now that ex-team mate Casey Stoner was no longer around?

With Valentino Rossi still getting used to things back at Yamaha, and Marc Marquez a talented rookie surely needing a season or two to settle into MotoGP, it seemed that neither rider would face serious competition from their respective team mates this year. Marquez might be good, but he was hardly likely to re-write the record books, now was he?

Fast forward to the chequered flag at Valencia in November, and the record book is in shreds - all because of the remarkable 20-year-old from Cervera, who achieved the impossible and became the youngest man ever to win the championship of the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

In our end-of-year quiz, we capture some of the excitement of that achievement and put Marquez' exploits into some sort of historical context, but at the same time we don't forget some of the other remarkable action that we've been treated to in MotoGP in 2013. From pole positions to race wins, most laps led and penalty points incurred, we've got a bit of everything for you about what happened this season - and we also look ahead to the future of the sport as well.
