Colin Edwards will not be able to keep his perfect record of MotoGP race starts, since his 2003 debut, intact after failing a medical.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider broke his collarbone in Friday practice at Catalunya, then underwent surgery on Saturday morning.

The Texan's plan was to start Sunday's race from the back of the grid, then do a lap before pulling into the pits, but he has unsurprisingly been declared not fit to race.

Edwards joked that maybe he doesn't have the right passport.

There will thus be only 15 riders for this afternoon's main event, meaning anyone that finishes is guaranteed at least a point.

Edwards looks set to try and ride at Silverstone next weekend, with Gresini's Hiroshi Aoyama tipped to get Dani Pedrosa's Repsol Honda.
