Colin Edwards suffered a dislocated left shoulder during the accident that claimed the life of Marco Simoncelli in Sunday's Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang.

"The American has left the Sepang International Circuit to begin his recovery at home in America and his thoughts and prayers are with Simoncelli and the Gresini Honda family," read part of a statement from Monster Yamaha Tech 3 (see the Simoncelli tribute story for the full version).

Edwards and Ducati's Valentino Rossi had no chance to avoid the fallen Simoncelli, as he was pulled by his bike across the race track in front of them on lap two of the grand prix.

Rossi, a close friend of Simoncelli, escaped unharmed.

As a mark of respect, Honda has cancelled its planned 1000cc test session at Sepang on Monday.
