Four times 500cc World Champion Eddie Lawson was welcomed into the MotoGP Hall of Fame, as a MotoGP legend, on the eve of the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

Californian born Lawson won three 500cc world titles in 1984/86/88 for Yamaha before switching to Honda to clinch the 1989 title.

Lawson and Valentino Rossi are the only riders in the 55-year history of motorcycle grand prix racing to win successive premier-class titles on different machinery.

Eddie would end his 500cc GP career with a switch to underdog's Cagiva for the 1991 and '92 seasons, where he would win the team's first race before retiring.

After his induction ceremony, Lawson raced in the Superkart race at Laguna which he started from pole position and finished third.
