Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez have both been summoned to a MotoGP Stewards’ hearing at Misano after the pair’s incident in Q2.

With both riders starting their final flying laps at the end of Q2 in qualifying, the pair came close to colliding after trading overtakes which ended up wrecking both their laps.

Marquez had been following Rossi before launching a close inside pass at the fast Curvone corner, only to run wide on the exit and off track meaning he would effectively lose the lap for exceeding track limits.

But the action continued later on as Rossi looked to get back by Marquez which saw the riders go inches away from clashing in a incident reminiscent to their clash during the 2015 Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang.

With both Rossi and Marquez failing to improve on their best laps in qualifying, the reigning MotoGP world champion is set to start the Misano race from fifth place while the Monster Yamaha rider qualified in seventh place.

MotoGP race direction have requested both Rossi and Marquez to attend a hearing with the Stewards Panel at 16:45 local time regarding the Q2 incident.

Rossi’s team-mate Maverick Vinales claimed pole position ahead of surprise package Pol Espargaro on the Red Bull KTM with Petronas Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo completing the front row.
