Castagna returns for Euphony Classic.

Italian legend Armando Castagna is set to return to Britain to ride in the Euphony Classic on Monday night at Reading's Smallmead Stadium (7.30pm). The popular ex-Racer who retired from British racing two years ago, has agreed to comeback for one night only, and will be making what is almost certainly his last ever appearance on a British track.

Castagna was one of the most popular riders ever to don a Reading race jacket, and should prove a real boost to the Smallmead crowd to see their hero race one last time. Reading Promoter Pat Bliss said, "Armando was very popular here, I'm sure our supporters will be pleased to see him in action again."

Mrs Bliss has certainly put together a top class field for this individual meeting, which is being sponsored by Reading's team sponsor Euphony Communications. Sixteen riders will compete in twenty heats of racing, with the top four going direct to a sudden-death Grand Final. Euphony will be presenting large cash prizes to the top three places, which should ensure that the action is real cut and thrust.

As a way of saying thank-you, Reading have also called up a number of riders who have made guest appearances for the Smallmead club in this injury hit season. These include: Rusty Harrison, Brent Werner, Mark Lemon, Paul Pickering, Garry Stead, Glen Cunningham and Danny Bird.

Bliss said, "It's a good quality line-up racing on Monday. With the exception of Sebastian Bengtsson, all the riders have appeared here before and ride our track extremely well, which should make for an exciting night's racing. With Euphony's continued support it will be quite a good meeting to win. We'd like to think we could make this a regular event for many years to come."

The club are operating 'kids for a quid' scheme, whereby children aged 14-or under will be admitted for just one pound providing there are accompanied by an adult. Usual Adults (?9.50) and OAP's (?6.00) admission has been retained.

The meeting was originally intended to be the final speedway of the season at Smallmead, but after the visit of Kings Lynn was rained-off last week, Monday 20th October will now be the final curtain for the re-arranged visit of the Stars.
