Disasterous Diamonds destroyed at Rye House.
The disasterous events of Friday night at Rye House left a devestated Diamonds' team manager, George English, completley unavailable for comment.
It was an unmittagated disaster for Newcastle who had still got their sights on a valuable top-8 finishing place in the League to qualify for the play-offs, and amazingly dispite the awful scoreline, which has dented Newcastle's race points differencial, without doubt, still leaves them with a chance of making that 8th place depending on other teams performances in the next 48 hours.

Newcastle went into this match without the services of the curretnly top-scoring Aussie Christian Henry who is still suffering with his injured hand from his crash on Monday night with Chris Mills and rider replacement is in operation to cover for his rides whilst Glen Phillips guested in place of Manuel Hauzinger who is witholding his services, so this was always going to be a tough contest, but no one had envisaged just how tough.
Rye House are always a force to be reckoned with at home this year and Newcastle just never really got going in the slightest with Rye House taking no less than 9 5-1 heat maximums, 4 4-2s and one solitary shared 3-3 which came in Heat 1 with home man, and former Diamond, Lee Smthills at the back. Not one Diamond passed the finish line in first place all night.
James Grieves was Newcastle's top scorer with 6 points and Henry's rides only produced a meagre 4 points, whilst it was an expensive night for Rye House who had four paid maximums (i.e. unbeaten by a Newcastle rider) courtesy of Edward Kennett, Tommy Allan, Chris Neath and Ben Powell.
George Stancl and Josef Franc took tactical rides but failed to beat an opposition rider and therefore didn't get double points, Stancl finishing in 3rd in Heat 11 and Franc 3rd in 14, which left Newcastle floundering like fish in a deep fat fryer, desperate to end the traumatic event and go home.
This really was THE one to forget for 2006..... there's still time for the Diamonds to get into the play-offs!
