Peter Collins is to be awarded an MBE for his services to speedway.

Collins, who spent all 17-years of his British career with Belle Vue, lifted the world crown in Poland in 1976. He also won numerous domestic competitions with the Manchester club along with England international honours.

"It's been amazing, the telephone hasn't stopped and
it's a very proud moment for me, my family and the sport," said a delighted Collins. "The timing is perfect after the amazing success of last week's British Grand Prix in Cardiff. Speedway is certainly on the up, there is no doubt about it."
