Smethills is final Ace in the pack.

Belle Vue Aces have given Lee Smethills their final team place allowing him to take advantage of the 'doubling up' facility as he will also ride on loan at Hull in the Premier League.

It's understood that Smethills, who will celebrate his twentieth birthday at the end of the month, will be given a number meetings to make his mark and show that he is up to the demands of racing at the higher level.

The young Englishman spent the last couple of seasons with Workington and looked to be a rising star until injuries blighted his progress somewhat in 2001. However a superb winter racing in Australia with the young Great Britain touring party indicated that Smethills was getting back on track.

Surplus to requirements at Workington, it wasn't long until he was snapped up on loan by Hull from the Aces, where he now can benefit from the new 'doubling up' rules.

With his new teammates including current world number two Jason Crump and ex-world champion Sam Ermolenko, Smethills shouldn't be short of help and advice, which can only be good for his progress in the sport.
