Kings Lynn rocked by Conference tragedy.

The Kings Lynn speedway team is mourning promising young rider David Nix, after a fatal accident in a recent Conference League match with Newcastle Diamonds.

The 25-year old crashed out of heat six of the meeting at the Norfolk Arena, and was immediately attended to by paramedics present at the venue. He was then taken to the local Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but sadly succumbed to the injuries he sustained. No other rider was involved in the incident.

The team has requested that it not be asked to comment further at this time, and has expressed its deepest sympathies to Nix's family.

Nix first rode speedway in 1994 at a training school as an 18th birthday present. He loved racing motorcycles and apart from speedway also enjoyed Sand Track and Grass Track racing.

Born in Boston on August 17, 1976, he was the cousin of former Boston rider Dennis Mallett and represented King's Lynn and Peterborough in the Conference League. His league debut was for Buxton in 1996.
