Australia will be the most represented country in next year's Speedway Grand Prix, with five riders vying for the 2003 world title. They are Jason Crump, Ryan Sullivan, Leigh Adams, Jason Lyons and Todd Wiltshire.

Crump, Syullivan and Adams finished second, third and fourth in the 2002 standings to earn automatic places for 2003. Wiltshire had an inconsistent time finishing outside the magic top-ten and a guaranteed return but impressed enough to be handed one of the seeded spots along with Lyons.

Wiltshire and Lyons were thrilled with their inclusions. "It hasn't really sunk in yet," said Wiltshire, speaking from Forster, New South Wales where he will stay until heading back to Europe in early 2003. "I wasn't confident about getting in the lineup, but I really crave the involvement (in Speedway GP riding), it's great news for me and I'm looking forward to the challenge. Hopefully I can make New South Wales and Australia proud next year at the Australian Speedway Grand Prix."

Jason Lyons, the 32 year old from Victoria, said he was disappointed about his performance in the recent Sydney round of the 2002 Speedway Grand Prix and is looking to make amends in 2003. "I'm really happy about being in the lineup and I'm glad for Todd as well," he said. Lyons's preparation for 2003 will start soon, after some quality fishing and relaxation time.

David White, Motorcycling Australia CEO, congratulated Wiltshire and Lyons on their inclusion in the 2003 Championship and said having five Australians represented showed the high standard of speedway in Australia.

"It's great to see five Australians in the Series for 2003," Mr White said. "We're the most represented nation in this international event and I think this is indicative of the standard of rider development in Australia."
