In that final, Poole and Watson clashed going in to the first turn as they battled for supremacy elbow-to-elbow. Watson came to grief but with the referee ordering a re-run without exclusions he got a second chance.
Poole got a fast start in the re-run and lead from Ty Platt and Lee Herne and that's how the race appeared to be panning out until Watson got motoring, passing Herne and then Platt. The unlucky Platt fell on the final lap after tangling with Herne which allowed Stevens to nip through for third place.
No stopping Poole, who in winning the final became state champion for the fifth time.
