'Scud' lands in Exeter.

Exeter promoter Colin Hill has confirmed the signing of Scott Smith on loan from Sheffield for the rest of the season. The former British Under-21 champion will make his debut at Newcastle on Sunday and his arrival is a timely boost following the injury to Michael Coles. Coles will miss the rest of the season after breaking three vertebrae and a scan has also shown neck damage.

Smith, affectionally known as 'Scud' in reference to a sometimes erratic riding style recently walked out on Sheffield after the culmination of various events but mainly criticism from the terraces after a poor run of away performances.

Now he can rebuild his career at a track it is widely acknowledged he rides almost as well as Owlerton. In past seasons Smith has been a regular guest rider at the County Ground if the Falcons have found themselves in need.
