John Gaw has been promoted to the new position of managing director of Prodrive Motorsport, putting him in charge of all motorsport operations within the company.

Gaw joined Prodrive at the beginning of 2011 as managing director for the Aston Martin Racing team and has since overseen significant growth in the racing business.

With Prodrive is looking to expand its activities in the US-based Global Rallycross Championship, and with plans to enter the new FIA World Rallycross Championship with the new MINI RX, Gaw will now expand his role beyond his current position.

He will also play a role as the Prodrive evaluates other areas of motorsport including the Dakar Rally and Formula E.

"These are exciting times for the business," he said. "We already have confirmed programmes in 2014 for our Aston Martin Racing works and customer teams. You will see our customers running MINI rally cars in the WRC and national series and we should have rallycross programmes in the GRC and the new FIA championship.

"I would also like to see us running cars in the new Formula E championship, which I believe has a tremendous future, and to be competing in the Dakar, which is a natural progression given our 30 years of rallying experience."
