Peugeot's Richard Burns has retired from the Rallye Catalunya in SS19, after going off the road.

The Brit, who had been running sixth overall, reportedly slipped on some mud around 10 kms into the Viladra 1 stage [35.18 kms].

Burns was not injured in the incident and neither was co-driver Robert Reid.

Going into this event the Englishman was joint second in the World Rally drivers' championship, three points behind leader Carlos Sainz.

A no score today then is a big blow, especially as the 206 WRC driver had led the series' up until last weekend's event in Corsica. Although it seems likely he will remain with a mathematical chance of taking the 2003 crown on the Wales Rally GB in two weeks time, realistically this is now unlikely to say the least, especially given the form of his rivals.
