Niccolo Canepa will take no further part in the World Superbike Championship weekend at the Nurburgring after sustaining a broken tibia in an accident during second free practice.

The former MotoGP rider, competing in his first full season of World Superbike racing with the Red Devils Roma Ducati team, fell at turn five and was immediately transferred to the medical centre where he was diagnosed with a broken right tibia.

He has since been taken to the local Adenau Hospital for an operation on the fracture.

Canepa had qualified to participate in Superpole, but could now be a doubt for the final two rounds of the season depending on the severity of his injury.
