Rea ‘super-excited’ for first race, ‘we were strong’ at Aragon last year

The 2021 World Superbike season is just two days away from FP1 at MotorLand Aragon which will see Jonathan Rea have the opportunity to clinch win #100 in WorldSBK.

The six-time series champion has had another impressive pre-season for the Japanese manufacturer - topping the lone Official test in Catalunya.

Rea will be aboard the new 2021 Ninja ZX-10RR and is ‘super-excited’ to get the season started.

"I am super-excited to go racing again because it feels like last season was so long ago,” added Rea.

"We have had some really good testing recently, where I have felt good with the bike and it is going to be so nice to get on track with everybody else to understand where we are.

"Aragon is a track we have very happy memories of after last year. We were able to be strong in the Motorland weekend and the following Teruel round."

The usual season opener of Phillip Island has typically been a happy hunting ground for Rea, but with a record of five wins and nine other rostrum finishes at Aragon, it can hardly been seen as a bad starting point for the 34 year-old.

Rea alluded to starting strong and building up momentum with back-to-back rounds an unlikely situation to begin a season.

Rea said: "The target is to start this year strong and try to build some momentum into the season.

"It is going to be a tough couple of weeks in succession with two back-to-back rounds - but kick-starting the racing into action at Aragon is great because we just finished testing there.

"I have a good feeling with the bike. The new Ninja ZX-10RR is definitely a step forward from last year. I am super-excited about it and I feel ready."
