Jonathan Rea has drawn level with Alvaro Bautista on race wins for the season with victory in the Superpole sprint race at the 2019 finale in Qatar.

The newly crowned World Superbike champion bolted from pole position to take a lights-to-flag victory for his 16th win of the year – equalling Bautista’s victory haul – to set up a final-race decider.

Bautista charged up the order to take second place but couldn’t close the gap to Rea over the second half of the 10-lap race as he had to settle for second place on the Aruba.it Racing Ducati.

Alex Lowes fended off Leon Haslam to complete the podium for Pata Yamaha on his final outing for the team as he prepares to replace Haslam at Kawasaki this winter.

Chaz Davies climbed up to fifth place from 12th on the grid for Aruba.it Racing Ducati, as birthday boy Michael van der Mark secured sixth place after trading overtakes on the last two laps with Loris Baz on the Ten Kate Racing Yamaha.

With Sandro Cortese in eighth place for GRT Yamaha, Eugene Laverty claimed the final points position in the sprint race for Team Goeleven Ducati ahead of the retiring Marco Melandri on the GRT Yamaha.

Tom Sykes struggled in the sprint race down in 12th place for BMW in front of Moriwaki Althea Honda’s Leon Camier and Pedercini Kawasaki’s Jordi Torres.

With Markus Reiterberger in 15th place for BMW, Ryuichi Kiyonari (Moriwaki Althea Honda), wildcard Dominic Schmitter and Alessandro Delbianco (Althea Honda) completed the finishers as Michael Ruben Rinaldi crashed out early for Barni Ducati while Toprak Razgatlioglu suffered a mechanical issue with his Puccetti Kawasaki on the warm-up lap.
