Unlike FP1 where Jonathan Rea led the way throughout, the six-time world champion had to play second best to Pata Yamaha’s Andrea Locatelli following the opening stint.

Tom Sykes, who was third during this morning’s FP1 suffered an early crash, while the Ducati’s of Michael Rinaldi and Scott Redding saw early improvements. Rinaldi then went fastest midway through session.

Rinaldi’s stint at the top wasn’t a long one though as Razgatlioglu went quickest with the best lap of the day.

Alvaro Bautista and Locatelli both suffered final corner crashes late on, while the top positions remained unchanged as the session ended.

Rea had a late excursion through the gravel at turn ten but was able to stay aboard his Kawasaki machine.

Jonathan Rea finishes FP1 for the Catalan WorldSBK fastest from championship rival Toprak Razgatlioglu.

After enjoying a recent two-day test in Barcelona, Rea was able to use the extra data gathered aboard his Ninja ZX-10RR to immediately set the pace.

Alex Lowes was second quickest following the initial flurry of laps before championship leader Razgatlioglu split the two KRT riders.

Tom Sykes moved up to third with a quarter of the session remaining, while Andrea Locatelli continued to impress in fifth.

With less than ten minutes remaining, Locatelli improved his time again which resulted in the top five being separated by just three tenths.

Times and positions inside the top five remained unchanged during the final few minutes, while Garrett Gerloff moved up from 14th to eighth.
