Jacobsen closes on lap record in FP3

PJ Jacobsen has stormed to the top of the World Supersport timesheets in third free practice at Motorland Aragon with a time that would put him just a tenth off the lap record.

The American rookie was in fine form as he leapt to the head of the order on the Intermoto Kawasaki, Jacobsen ending the session four tenths clear of his nearest rival with a time of 2mins 01.598secs.

Ahead of qualifying this afternoon, this puts Jacobsen just over a tenth off Sam Lowes's lap record from last season.

Jules Cluzel was second fastest as the only other rider to break into the 2min 01secs bracket, with Kev Coghlan and Jacobsen's team-mate Florian Marino in third and fourth.

Making up for lost time after technical issues on Friday, Kenan Sofuoglu as fifth fastest, ahead of leading Honda contender Ratthapark Wilairot, the Thai rider shrugging off a crash to lead a quintet of CBR600RR riders in the order of Michael van der Mark, Lorenzo Zanetti, Riccardo Russo and Jack Kennedy.
