A petition has been set-up calling on the British Government to help organise the return of ex-500cc grand prix rider and BSB star Sean Emmett.

Emmett has been trapped in the Dubai legal system since the tragic death of his wife Abbie, who fell from a hotel balcony while they were on holiday in February.

Despite Dubai Police reportedly believing there are no suspicious circumstances, the Briton has had his passport confiscated while authorities continue their investigations.

"I said to them 'tell me what you're investigating, I'm under no charge, under no bail, you're just holding my passport and keep saying 'we still have an investigation to do''," Emmett told the BBC.

More details and the latest updates on Emmett's situation can be found direct from the man himself via his Twitter account.

Emmett's four seasons of 500GP (1993-1996) included partnering Kevin Schwantz in the iconic Lucky Strike Suzuki team, before later battling at the sharp end of the British Superbike Championship, where he won 19 races.
