Laverty crowned Cup winner.

While Shane Byrne didn't quite seal the Bennetts British Superbike title at Croft, there was still one champion to celebrate as John Laverty wrapped up the Daily Star Cup for North West Ducati.

Arguably even more of a formality than Byrne's endeavour, Laverty needed just a handful of points over Martin Jessopp to be classified as champion, a feat he duly managed with a pair of second place finishes behind Gary Mason.

It means Laverty can call himself a champion with two rounds and four races remaining, a big boost for the youngster, who has been battling a knee injury the last two events following his accident at Knockhill.

"I knew that I just had to ride two consistently safe races and bring the bike home in a good position," he said. "I got two seconds and have taken the Championship for the Buildbase team which I'm over the moon about.

"I would like to thank, Brad, Neil, Dave and the rest of the Buildbase NW200 Team for all their help and support over the season and glad I've been able to reward them with the Championship.

"I can relax a little now going into Silverstone and Brands but hopefully I'll be able to finish the season on top of the box. Thanks again to everyone plus also thanks must go to the CJ Physios for all the help they have given me with my damaged knee, which has been giving me problems since I crashed at Knockhill."
