Byrne tops shortened FP3

Defending Bennetts British Superbike champion Shane Byrne has stormed to the top of the times for Be Wiser Ducati ahead of JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam by less than one tenth of a second.

The six-time BSB champion produced a 1m 30.239s with his final lap flyer to take top spot ahead of Haslam by just 0.067s with Anvil Hire Yamaha’s James Ellison sliding into third a quarter of a second back.

Glenn Irwin bounced back from injury in FP1 to impress with fourth spot for Be Wiser Ducati with BSB rookie Gino Rea completing the top five for OMG Suzuki.

The final free practice session was cut down to 20 minutes due to the schedule reshuffle caused by poor weather forecasts with qualifying shift to start 10 minutes after FP3.

With qualifying so soon after FP3 it was a nightmare session for McAMS Yamaha’s Tarran Mackenzie and RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon who both tipped off midway through the session causing a race against time to repair the bikes in time for qualifying.
