Shane Byrne has cemented his top spot from free practice at Brands Hatch Indy by pulling out a two-tenths advantage on nearest rival Christian Iddon.

The defending Bennetts British Superbike champion is experimenting with a new swingarm on his Be Wiser Ducati and having gone fastest on Friday practice the six-time title winner backed up his pace with the top time in FP3 of 45.213s.

Given less than one second covered the top 20 in FP3, Byrne’s 0.222s gap to second place rider Tyco BMW’s Iddon marks a significant advantage heading into qualifying. Byrne’s teammate Glenn Irwin backed up the pace by taking third on the times ahead of JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam and surprise early BSB championship leader Bradley Ray on the Buildbase Suzuki.

Michael Laverty was shuffled down the order late on for Tyco BMW after an impressive early lap but stayed ahead of Richard Cooper (Buildbase Suzuki and sole Honda Racing rider Jason O’Halloran after seeing teammate Dan Linfoot ruled out with a vertebrae fracture suffered in a Friday practice crash.

James Ellison (Anvil Hire Yamaha) and Josh Brookes (McAMS Yamaha) look set to contest the top Yamaha honour as the pair completed the top ten contenders.
