Bennetts British Superbike championship leader Leon Haslam has pinched top spot in the opening practice from Glenn Irwin at Cadwell Park with the Be Wiser Ducati suffering a small fall in the closing minutes of the session.

The Northern Irish rider led the times for the majority of FP1 but saw his provisional best lap eclipsed by the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider with a 1m 27.069s with his final flying lap – going 0.009s faster than Irwin.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider lost his chance to better Haslam’s effort when he crashed on his final lap at the bottom of the Mountain but was able to return to the pits unharmed in the low speed off.

With Irwin having to settle for second, RAF Reserves & Regular Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon claimed third on the times ahead of Danny Buchan on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki, providing a strong showing from the Japanese manufacturer with three riders inside the top four spots.

Buildbase Suzuki duo Richard Cooper and Bradley Ray produced a solid FP1 showing to take fifth and sixth respectively ahead of Tommy Bridewell who continued his impressive pace on the Moto Rapido Ducati having joined the team less than one month ago.

Luke Mossey claimed eighth for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki squad ahead of Andrew Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati) with Josh Brookes rounding out the top ten on the McAMS Yamaha.
