Josh Brookes has topped the opening practice session at Oulton Park which saw times curtailed by intermittent rain.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider wrestled the Bennetts British Superbike championship lead from team-mate Scott Redding last time out at Cadwell Park and continues to lead the way in FP1 with a best lap of 1m 34.690s to head the session by over half a second from Danny Buchan on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki.

With Buchan battling to secure his BSB Showdown spot, he shuffled down Smiths Racing BMW’s Peter Hickman to third place on the times late on directly ahead of Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon - with all three still in contention to secure a top six spot.

Tommy Bridewell, who has already locked down his BSB title-fighting place, ended FP1 in fifth place having announced earlier this week he will stay with Oxford Racing Ducati for 2020.

Redding slotted into sixth place in a tentative start to his race weekend for Be Wiser Ducati but ahead of Buildbase Suzuki’s Bradley Ray as Glenn Irwin (Tyco BMW) edged out his brother Andrew Irwin on the Honda.

Santander Salt Yamaha’s Dan Linfoot rounded out the top 10 ahead of OMG Racing Suzuki’s Luke Mossey, McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran and Buildbase Suzuki’s Luke Stapleford.

James Ellison impressed on his maiden BSB session on the MV Agusta in 14th place in front of BSB Showdown challenges Xavi Fores (Honda) and Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha).
