Scott Redding has held on to his advantage on Friday practice at Assen by going under the lap record to keep clear of Tommy Bridewell ahead of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Showdown.

After topping FP1, Redding doubled up his efforts with a last lap of 1m 36.060s to set the standard by going almost a third of a second faster than the current BSB lap record at Assen.

That gave the Be Wiser Ducati rider a 0.474s gap on Bridewell despite a late improvement from the Oxford Racing Ducati rider.

McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran surged up to third place on the FP2 times with a similarly impressive charge from Luke Stapleford on the Buildbase Suzuki to take fourth spot in the afternoon session.

Hector Barbera used his Assen experience from his former World Superbike and Grand Prix racing days to take fifth place on the Quattro Plant Kawasaki ahead of Dan Linfoot in sixth on the TAG Racing Yamaha.

That saw BSB Showdown challenger Peter Hickman shuffled down to seventh place for Smiths Racing BMW.

With Xavi Fores eighth for Honda and Christian Iddon ninth for Tyco BMW, BSB Showdown pair Josh Brookes (Be Wiser Ducati) and Danny Buchan (FS-3 Racing Kawasaki) were both off the outright pace in 10th and 11th respectively.

Final BSB Showdown rider Tarran Mackenzie could only reach 18th place for McAMS Yamaha.

With Assen hosting the opening round of the 2019 BSB Showdown, the series heads to Donington Park’s GP circuit for the penultimate round before a three-race finale at Brands Hatch next month.
